Stuck Behind the Truck
Read: Psalm 32:8-11
"Mom, why are you crying?" Joseph asked. Her tears scared him. She never cried.
"I'm sorry, honey," she said, brushing away tears from under her eyes. "I'm just really discouraged right now." She turned on her right blinker and waited for an opening in the traffic.
"Because we aren't able to move in today after all?" Joseph asked.
"Yes," Mom answered as she turned right. "They promised the apartment would be ready for us. But those nasty bugs we found aren't easy to get rid of, and we can't live there right now. So I'm going to need your help getting the car unpacked when we get home."
"But we can't live at home anymore," Joseph said. "You told me so."
"Not for much longer, you're right." A huge semi-trailer advertising groceries pulled out in front of them, and Mom followed behind it. "Our landlady says we have to move within a week. I had hoped this apartment would work for us, but now I see it won't. And that's why I'm discouraged."
The semi ground to a halt, and Mom stopped the car behind it. Joseph tried to see why the truck stopped, but the back was so wide he couldn't tell.
"Mom, why did the truck stop just now?" he said, still straining at the window to see around the truck.
"I don't know, honey. Maybe because of a red light, or a stop sign, or a car accident. It doesn't really matter. If the truck in front of me stops, it has a good reason, and I stop too. It's kind of hard not knowing though, isn't it?"
"Hey," Joseph said. "That's how God works. We can't really tell why He's stopping us or letting us go forward, and that's really hard. But just because we don't know what He's doing doesn't mean we can't trust Him."
"You're right, Joseph!" Mom said. "Right now in our lives it seems like we're following behind a semi-trailer. We don't know why God put a stop to our apartment plans, but we know He's in control and has a good reason for all He does. We just need to remember how much He loves us and trust Him to help us through this. Thanks, buddy!" Amy Glendinning
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you ever feel like things are out of control? Do you wish you could see what the future holds? Much as we would like to see or control what will happen to us, only God knows and controls the future. But because He is all-powerful and loves us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to save us, we know we can trust Him with whatever comes our way. Trust Him with the future.
